Dean and Shay have won The Block auction when their penthouse apartment sold in frenzied bidding for $2.3 million – $655,000 above its reserve price.
The price tag was just $15k above Luke & Ebony’s $640,000.
Pocketing the extra $100,000 saw their winnings lift to $755,000.
All 5 apartments sold with profits at $349,000 or higher. It was the second time Block apartments tipped the $2m price tag (following Albert Park’s Fan v Faves in 2014).
While the Nine series gave away $2,539,000 in cash, all 5 were less profitable than South Yarra’s Triple Threat earlier this year.
But there was plenty of interest in the 5 x 225-square metre apartments, with 360-degree vistas.
The Nine series has rated well this season, reversing a downward trend by Reno Rumble earlier this year. It will return in the second half of 2016.

These results show just how expensive the views are compared to each floor. And the Suziki + $10,000 did nothing for Dean & Shay
All of the apartments in Triple Threat sold for more than $2 million earlier this year.
It’s a win-win-win situation. 9 gets it’s investment money back and high ratings, the contestants get the profits and some prize money and the various Govts pocket over $1m in taxes for doing nothing.
Well done Dean and Shay, there are a million viewers who wish they were in your shoes.
David, not all apartments sold for more than 2 million……
I reckon whoever wins Nine should match their profit dollar for dollar so it actually means something to win because given everyone walked away with over $300k the $100k prize for winning seems rather pitiful and cheap of Nine. I wonder if we would see such ridiculous profits if this was actually the prize for winning.
Oh so if they win with say, $25,000 over reserve the first prize is $25,000 not $100,000.
It’s just a thought based on how huge the profits have become and how insignificant the actual prize for winning has become.
Happy they won!
