The AFL Footy Show has announced a telethon later this month, for children’s cancer charity My Room.

Rebecca Maddern, James Brayshaw, Billy Brownless, Sam Newman, Dave Hughes and Shane Crawford will be joined by more than 60 star AFL players, sporting stars and personalities, who will man the phones. Players from Geelong, Essendon, Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs, Richmond, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Collingwood and Melbourne have already committed, including Luke Hodge, Dane Swan, Alex Rance, Dustin Martin, Nick Dal Santo and many more.

GTV9 Melbourne Managing Director, Ian Paterson, said: “We are delighted to be making this three-hour telethon possible by devoting the resources of The Footy Show to its success.

“My Room is a wonderful charity run by an extraordinary team of volunteers. They need support to continue on their mission of research and care for children who are diagnosed with cancer every year.”

The Nine Network and The Footy Show have been long-time supporters of My Room and the work they do. In its 24-year history, My Room has helped to raise more than $16 million to fund life-saving equipment, innovative clinical trials and medical research, essential ward refurbishments, social workers, play and music therapy and so much more for sufferers of childhood cancer and their families.

Each year the parents of 800 children will be told, “Your child has cancer.” Sadly, only 83% of these children will survive. 100% of proceeds from the telethon will go towards striving for better outcomes for children with cancer, funding clinical research projects and family care as well as supporting the new Monash Children’s Hospital’s Cancer Centre opening in early 2017.

You can donate by heading to www.myroom.com.au or calling the donation line during the telethon – and together we can give childhood cancer the boot.

Thursday, August 25, at 7.30pm on Nine.
