Oops, technical issues trouble Nine News.

More technical problems hit Sydney last night.

Nine News Sydney had more technical problems last night that required them to broadcast Nine News from Melbourne for a short period last night.

Georgie Gardner came back on air to apologise for difficulties.

Two weeks ago storms in South Australia meant Nine News Sydney was plagued with problems when it broadcast the Adelaide bulletin from Sydney.

  1. 9 news in Sydney have just started using the Mosart automated control room system. An old school, fully staffed and experienced control room, will always win over some poor person whose left sitting behind a blank computer screen when something goes wrong.

  2. WIN NSW crashed on Wed. night. NSW got a ” state” bulletin rather than individual ” local” bulletins. Seem to use Ignite, as visible in some of their promos.
As for 9 News, ” parochial” = “it only concerns a local area”. I guess that’s why it’s ” Melbourne News” or “Sydney News”. If one wants other style of news, there’s ABC24.

  3. It was quite bizarre. They played a few minutes of ads, then cut into Melbourne’s 9 News which was dominated by local Victorian stories before cutting a live cross off mid-sentence with Georgie Gardner finally appearing.

I recall when Melbourne viewers lost their Seven News bulletin, Sydney host Mark Ferguson at least told viewers that Melbourne would return to their normal bulletin shortly. But the Melbourne 9 News host didn’t say a word.

  4. Some 260,000 Sydney news viewers received a stark reminder last night just how parochial and arbitrary Melbourne news is, before being returned to their own parochial and arbitrary news service.

    1. Many years ago I was travelling in San Francisco. The evening news was dominated for several nights in a row by a baby whale that had got trapped in a local river. I was perplexed that such a stupid story had been elevated to top story… 20 years later, welcome to Australia. I mean, who cares what is happening in the world? Ratings is all that matters and people, it seems, are morons, if this is what they lap up.
