Veteran newsman Dan Webb, best known for Seven News Melbourne and It’s Academic, has died aged 92.
Webb was one of the first people on air on HSV7 in 1956, going on to host game show Video Village and It’s Academic.
He spent decades reporting for Seven News and was one of the first hosts of the Good Friday Appeal when it began on radio, remaining a devoted supporter over 66 years.
“He was a true professional and a thorough gentleman,” Peter Mitchell told viewers last night.
Webb also fooled viewers in an early April Fool’s news report (below).
His final TV appearance was during the Good Friday Appeal last year.

RIP Dan. I remember your Westgate Bridge disaster coverage. I loved Video Village as a kid. I wish one of the brave networks would bring it back. It was good harmless fun. It would compliment Family Feud.
Remember coming home from school & watching video village with co host Liz Harris.Still have the board game.
RIP Dan Webb. You were a real professional and gentleman.
Fond memories of you as a newsman and presenter at both HSV7 and radio 3DB.
