SBS picks up new Nordic drama, Valkyrien.

Nordic noir drama revolves around an illegal hospital hidden in an Oslo underground station.

SBS has picked up the rights to Nordic noir drama Valkyrien.

The eight-part series, produced by Tordenfilm nd written by showrunner Erik Richter Strand (Occupied), revolves around an illegal hospital hidden in an Oslo underground station.

It is expected to screen later this year following the launch of the show in the UK in June -although it isn’t clear f it will be via SBS On Demand first.

Valkyrien premiered on Norway’s NRK in January.

  1. ‘Occupied’ was a well made show that looked at a not so far fetched future due to Europe’s energy dependency on Russia, I hope this effort will be similar with it’s character development and mildly dystopian plot. I note that itv has some involvement with most of these Scandinavian shows too.

  2. Dis-used underground railway stations must be cheaper to rent than studio’s. Same temperature all year round – cold, as the-man-in-the-suit and overcoat can testify. An ideal spot to grow Psilocybin “magic mushrooms” I’m told. Do TV execs need further encouragement to move to platforms 26 or 27 at Sydney Central or 9.75 at St James?

  3. Relevant to a comment I made on another article, let’s hope that this is a good one and not something ordinary that SBS tries to pretend is “just like The Bridge, honest!”.
