Celebrity chef Darren Simpson, best known for his appearances on Ready Steady Cook and Sunrise, has died, aged just 39.
He died following a long battle with alcohol addiction-related illness.
News Corp reports he is believed to have suffered a heart attack on Thursday night after a recent attempt at rehabilitation in a clinic, then hospital near his Byron Bay home.
Simpson made regular appearances on Sunrise, Today and previously Ready Steady Cook, Lifestyle FOOD channel’s The Best in Australia alongside Ben O’Donoghue and Anna Gare.
The Irish-born chef was named UK’s Young Chef of the year at the age of 21, the youngest ever winner of the prestigious prize before opening La Sala (The Room) in Woollahra in 2005.
